Full List of Entry Tests For Undergraduate Engg. Admissions

Entry tests to keep in mind after FSc

In Pakistan, universities consider an entry test for their admissions in engineering, technology, and science programs. As a fresh pass out of an intermediate exam, we'll walk you through a comprehensive list of entry tests (ECAT, NET, NTS, ETEA, etc) along with their last dates, expected test dates, preparation, and application process. As you consider each entry test, you open enormous opportunities for admissions to different universities in different fields. If you take an exam of all those entry tests (mentioned below), you'll be able to apply for the top 50+ universities in different cities in different provinces. That is almost a guaranteed admission in the discipline of your choice. You can view latest engineering admissions in all universities on our admissions section.

This guide is specifically for engineering, computer science/IT, and other science entry tests. Some, universities/colleges conduct their entry tests themselves while others accept general tests, we'll cover those as well.

All engineering programs offered by universities are bound to a particular type of entrance test as a compulsory substance. Students after intermediate don't usually have enough knowledge to make them aware of all these tests. Hence, limit their admissions to a few universities or groups of universities.

Here is a list of engineering and technology (CS/IT etc) entrance tests.

ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test)

Sounds familiar? Maybe yes!

This is one of the most popular entry tests students consider and prepare for. It is conducted every year by UET, Lahore with the validity of test results for one year. ECAT is generally acceptable in public and private universities in Punjab and Islamabad area.

ECAT examination centers are in different cities, making it easy for applicants to take the exam. There are two types of ECATs, one for FSc Pre-Engineering and the other for ICS (Computer Science) students. For FSc (Pre-Engineering) students, the test is divided into English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics while for ICS composition is a little bit different, replacing Chemistry with Computer Science (as English, Physics, Computer Science and Math).

Composition is as follow:

  • English: 10%
  • Math: 30%
  • Physics: 30%
  • Chemistry/Computer Science: 30%

The paper is a total of 400 marks with negative marking (4 marks for correct and -1 for incorrect answer).

Important dates regarding ECAT are as follow:

Deadline/Registration Last Date: May 17, 2021

Test Date: 03-08 July, 2021

NET (NUST Entry Test)

NUST being one of the top-ranked universities in the country conducts its entrance test for engineering and technology programs, NET (NUST entry test).

NET is conducted several times a year. Every test is valid for one year. Students can take the exam every time and use the best effort (best marks) for admissions. The test pattern is:

  • Mathematics 40%
  • Physics 30%
  • Chemistry 15%
  • English 10%
  • Intelligence 5%

You have to solve a paper with a total of 200 marks in 3 hours with no negative marking. The latest updated dates for NET are as follow:

Deadline: June 27, 2021 onwards

Test Date: June 27, 2021 onwards

ETEA Test

University of Engineering and Technology Peshawar and its sub-campuses are required students to pass the ETEA entry test. This entry test is generally accepted in KPK province universities for engineering, computer science, and architecture programs.

The test pattern is:

  • Physics: 60 marks
  • Chemistry / Computer Science: 60
  • Mathematics: 60
  • English: 20

The latest updated dates for the test are as follow:

Deadline: 20 July, 2021

Test Date: August 01, 2021

GIKI Entry Test

Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology is one of the pillars of engineering and technology education, in Swabi, KPK. The admission is based on the entry test comprising multiple-choice questions (MCQs).

The test consists of English, Physics, and Mathematics. For the sake of easiness for students, the entry test is conducted in different cities like Multan, Karachi, Quetta, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar. Applicants can choose their venue by online admission website to their ease.

The test pattern is as follow:

  • English: 20 Marks (20 MCQs)
  • Physics: 90 Marks (30 MCQs)
  • Mathematics: 90 Marks (30 MCQs)

Total marks and time: 200 (120 minutes)

The above pattern is clear that every question for physics and math is 2.5 marks with negative marking (-1 for incorrect answer). While the English question is of 1 mark without negative marking. Questions that are not attempted will no longer be subject to negative marking.

The latest updated dates for the test are as follow:

Deadline: 20 July, 2021

Test Date: August 01, 2021

NTS NAT-IE (for COMSATS)

COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) conducts its entry test through a national testing system (NTS) called NAT. Students can apply for engineering and technology disciplines after securing at least 50% marks in the entry test. It is important to note that students with ICS backgrounds can attempt NAT-ICS (computer science).

It is important to note that students can apply for NAT several times in an academic year and use their best result for admission (similar to that of the NUST entry test).

The test pattern is as follow:

  • English 20 (22.2 marks)
  • Analytical 20 (22.2 marks)
  • Quantitative 20 (22.2 marks)
  • Subjects 30 (33.4 marks)

Total 90 questions (100 marks)

If you've attempted the entry test, you can check your merit with the updated aggregate calculator.

FAST Entry Test

FAST-NU (National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences) conducts its entry test for admissions. But NTS-NAT can also be used by students as an entry test. The entry test is a computer-based entry test with about 2 hours time limit.

The entry test pattern for engineering and computer science programs varies as follow:

Engineering test pattern:

  • English: 10%
  • Analytical Skills & IQ: 20%
  • Basic Math: 10%
  • Advanced Math: 40%
  • Physics: 20%

Computer Science (CS) test pattern:

  • English: 10%
  • Analytical Skills & IQ: 20%
  • Basic Math: 20%
  • Advanced Math: 50%

CS/IT Entry Test (PUCIT)

Punjab University conducts entry test for technology programs for undergraduate admissions. The programs include:

  • Computer Science
  • Software Engineering
  • Information Technology

There was no entry test during COVID-19. Students were able to apply for admission purely based on their academic marks. So, we'll provide information as the new schedule is out. Just keep checking!

Other Entry Tests

We've discussed many important entrance tests in Punjab, Islamabad, KPK, and Karachi (Sindh). But just keep in mind they are the only! There are many other entry tests for engineering and technology universities in the public and private sectors. So, we are listing them as follow:

  • PIEAS Islamabad Entry Test
  • MUET Jamshoro Test
  • Bahria University Entry Test
  • Air University
  • Islamic University Islamabad
  • International Islamic University (IIU)

Note: Reciprocal Seats

It is worth mentioning here that students from Punjab province can't directly apply for admissions in other provinces. There is always a quota for other provinces. Reciprocal seats are the reserved quota by the universities for other provinces.

UET, Lahore publishes information for the reciprocal seats every year where students who appeared in ECAT test from Punjab province can apply for the universities in other provinces like NED (Sindh), UET Peshawar, etc.

You should keep visiting our website for the latest information about reciprocal seats.
